What is the best stuff to provide a little lubrication to a nut slot.
I have heard of "nut sauce", but is there something simple

If the nut slots are cut correct they do not need lube!
Use the correct size files or saws and pay attention to what's going on !
Every nut needs to be cut for the guitar it's on!

You can use a #2 pencil for lube!

Guitar Grease. S.M. sells it works well and also works on open Bass tuners that get awnery/rusty.

I've been using Nut Sauce for a while and I like it. As for cutting the slot right the first time, Hesh hit the point right on--if you can use the string as a file, imagine what that string is doing under tension. A good lubricant will mitigate the abrasion, and Nut Sauce fits the bill well. It's much superior to graphite, in my experience.
